The Computer Science and Technology major in WYU is a national first-class specialty and also a characteristic specialty of Guangdong Province. The program features a "2+2" joint cultivation model, which means that during the 4-year undergraduate period, students study domestically for the first two years, and can choose to study abroad for the last two years. The courses of this major are taught in both Chinese and English, and after passing IELTS, students can choose to study abroad in the last two years in partner institutions in the UK or Australia and can obtain dual bachelor's degrees from Wuyi University and the partner institution, as well as a bachelor's degree diploma from Wuyi University. 

In the field of scientific research, the university insists on opening up to the outside world, leveraging its proximity to Hong Kong and Macao and its location in the "hometown of Overseas Chinese" to continuously expand international exchanges and cooperation. The university has engaged in international exchanges and cooperation with over 70 high-level institutions and research organizations abroad, including the University of Wollongong in Australia, Rutgers University in the United States, the University of Portsmouth in the UK, Yamanashi University in Japan, Konkuk University in South Korea, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the University of Macau. In the 2023 Soft Science China University Major Ranking, the Computer Science and Technology major is ranked around 300th in the country. 

The major has established four major laboratories, including the Software Engineering Experimental Center, the Mobile Internet Technology Experimental Center, the Network and Information Security Experimental Center, and the Big Data and Cloud Computing Experimental Center. In the past three years, students of this major have won over 20 national-level competition awards and more than 80 provincial-level awards. They have obtained over 30 national-level college student innovation and entrepreneurship training program projects and over 70 provincial-level college student innovation and entrepreneurship training program projects. Students have published more than 20 papers. The major has approved more than 10 provincial-level teaching research and reform projects and published over 30 papers.
